Zombie ’Pataphysics and Trains Why Not.

Vermische Zombietheorien, ’Pataphysik (die „absurdist“ Wissenschaft von den imaginären Lösungen, erfunden von Alfred Jarry), eine große Anzahl an Modelleisenbahnen – und was bekommt ihr? Angela Märklin! Ihr Porträt, vollständig aus Eisenbahnschienen gestaltet und schön rosarot gezeichnet, bildet einen besonderen Bestandteil von „Zombie ’Pataphysics and Trains Why Not“, einer Ausstellung der Muses Maschine, die passend am Freitag, den 13. Juni in der Krausnickstr. 15 in Berlin Mitte um 19:00 geöffnet wird.
 
Andere Höhepunkte sind eine Zombieeisenbahn, die Finger derjenigen fressen kann, die sich ihr nähern; eine Zombiefikation aller BesucherInnen der Vernissage; ein VW-Mikrobus, der Eisenbahntöne einer BBC-Soundeffect-LP abspielt und gleichzeitig Gemälde in Töne umwandelt. Eine Modelleisenbahn wird auf einem Salzbett fahren, eine andere in einem endlosen Tunnel, wobei sie kabellos Fernsehbilder von sich selbst nach außenhin überträgt.
Das komplette „Kommunistische Manifest“ von Karl Marx und Friedrich Engels wird als Eisenbahn wieder-vorgestellt.

Während der Eröffnung gibt es eine großangelegte Malerei- und Klangperformance und die Premiere (nicht nur in Berlin, sondern weltweit) des Zombieohrwurms: „In a Bad Place with a Good Idea (to get where you’re going, I wouldn’t start from here…)”

Brian Reffin Smith ist der 67jährige, in Berlin lebende Gewinner des ersten „Prix Ars Electronica“ (Linz 1987). Er nutzt Computer, ’Pataphysik und die Tatsache, 1998 nach einer kleinen Operation in Paris ein Zombie geworden zu sein, um mehr oder weniger konzeptuelle Kunst zu machen.
Er ist Regent im Collège de ’Pataphysique (Paris), mit dem Lehrstuhl für Katachemie und spekulativer Metallurgie.
Seit den 1960er Jahren macht, schreibt und leht er computergestützte Kunst. Seine „43 Dodgy Statements about Computer Art” (43 kniffligen Statements zur Computer-Kunst) bezeichnete die Zeitschrift Wired als „zeitlos“.

 Zombie ’Pataphysics and Trains Why Not.

Mix Zombie Theory, ’Pataphysics (the absurdist Science of Imaginary Solutions invented by Alfred Jarry) and a large number of model railways, and what do you get? Angela Märklin! Her portrait, made entirely of railway lines drawn in pretty pink colours, is one of the features of Zombie ’Pataphysics and Trains Why Not, an exhibition opening at Muses Maschine in Berlin, appropriately on Friday 13 June.
Other highlights will be an interactive Zombie Train that can eat the fingers of those approaching it; a Zombification of everyone at the opening; a VW Micro-bus playing train sounds from a BBC sound effects LP record and paintings turned into sound in real time. A model train will run on a bed of salt, and another in an endless tunnel, transmitting wireless TV pictures of itself to the outside world.
The entire Communist Manifesto of Marx and Engels is re-imagined as a railway.

During the opening there will be a large-scale painting and sound performance as well as the Berlin - and indeed world - premier of the Zombie ear-worm “In a Bad Place with a Good Idea (to get where you’re going, I wouldn’t start from here…)”

Brian Reffin Smith is the 67 year old Berlin-living British winner of the first ever Prix Ars Electronica in Linz, Austria, in 1987. He uses computers, ’Pataphysics and the fact that he became a Zombie after a short operation in a Paris hospital in 1998, to make more or less conceptual art.
He is Regent of the Collège de ’Pataphysique, Paris, holding the Chair of Catachemistry and Speculative Metallurgy.

He has made, written about and taught computer-based art since the 1960s.

His controversial “43 Dodgy Statements about Computer Art” was described by Wired as “Timeless”.
